One Last Snow Day | Mountain High

The snow gods praised us with one last snow day, permitting Mt. High to reopen for one last hoorah. First storm to hit at the end of the week, which allowed for us mid to late week boarders to finally experience the better end of the storm. Perfect day to wrap up the season.

Also, my first outing with my new F-Stop Kenti bag. I’ve been on the hunt for an outdoor pack which I could take on boarding and hiking trips, that allowed for a sufficient amount of gear without adding too much bulk. Took over two months to ship to my doorstep but it was all worth. The bag allows quick access through side panels to two DSLRs, very secure and low profile. Highly recommended if you have the dough and patience.

Socal making the most of a snow deprived winter. You pay for convenience when coming to Mt. High, but it’s nothing ever short of a great time.

My first attempt at composing a video. Filmed with a 7D and a Drift HD170.

As expected, the Drift HD170 delivered some great footage.

The LCD screen and remote control were what sold me on the Drift over the well-established GoPro.
Both weren’t completely necessary in capturing usable footage but definitely made the process easier.
Drift’s time lapse recording feature was also a lot of fun to tinker around with, I can see it coming to of some great use.
The unit itself is larger than the GoPro but not unbearable, plus it doesn’t look like a mini-toaster.

My only gripe was the inability to shoot 60fps at 720p.
Which now Drift allows with their latest model, a model that was released a month after I purchased mine. *facepalm

Although it may be awhile before I again decide to invest countless hours into a project that
ends up running only 7 minutes long, I will give it another go some time in the future.

7D Goes Snowboarding

Decided to finally get my feet wet and plunge into an attempt at shooting video this boarding season.
I’ve always swayed away from video, figured I’d risk getting interested and be left with yet another hobby to fund.

Here are some screen shots exported from the video footage I captured.
A poorly developed video montage will follow as soon as I capture more usable footage.
